PolyBak Has a Declare Label; Confirmed Red List Free
Grand Rapids, MI: Richwood Industries, the manufacturer of PolyBak – a leading backer and overlay used in the office furniture and composite panel manufacturing sectors – proudly announced that they have published a Declare label for PolyBak from the International Living Future Institute, officially confirming that PolyBak is Red List Free.
The Declare label serves as a "nutrition label" for building products, offering transparency in material health. Products with this certification are listed in a publicly accessible database, widely used within the building industry to select products that align with green building standards, including Core Green Building, LBC, LEED, and WELL Certifications. To earn the Red List Free designation, a product must contain none of the hazardous chemicals identified by the Living Building Challenge (LBC) as "worst in class"—substances known to pose significant risks to human health and the environment.
PolyBak’s versatility enables it to extend across multiple applications, and it serves as an alternative to phenolic backers, which are known to contain Red List chemicals, most notably formaldehyde. “We are excited to receive the Declare label for PolyBak. Beyond reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and transparency, this certification empowers our customers with crucial information to make informed choices when selecting building materials,” said Dan Springer, President of Richwood Industries.
Beyond the Declare label, PolyBak has also achieved UL Solutions GREENGUARD Gold Certification and Formaldehyde Free Validation. Richwood Industries recently published PolyBak’s first verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), highlighting its exceptionally low embodied carbon, further solidifying PolyBak as a leading sustainable product in the industry.
